Australian referee Mark Shield will be aiming for yet another career highlight on Wednesday night at the Asian Football Confederation Annual Awards Night that will be held at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney.

Shield, who refereed the final of the AFC Asian Cup earlier this year, is Australia's only final award nominee at the AFC's night of nights.

The Queensland official, who has also refereed at two FIFA World Cup finals (2002 & 2006) is up against Kuwait's Saad Kamel Al Fadhli and Mohammed Salleh Subkhiddin from Malaysia for the AFC Referee of the Year award.

He will hoping to make it a double for Australian referees, after Tammy Ogston was crowned AFC Women's Referee of the Year last month. Tammy refereed the final of the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup in September.
